No Roll Cabbage Casserole

This is the simplest way to enjoy the taste and ingredients of cabbage rolls without the fuss.  I like to serve it with a side of green beans and rye bread.

Ingredients
  1. 1 small head of cabbage, chopped
  2. 1 lb lean ground beef
  3. ½ lb ground pork
  4. 2 hot Italian sausages, casing removed
  5. 1 onion chopped
  6. ½ cup converted rice, uncooked
  7. 3 cups crushed tomatoes or passata
  8. 1 cup beef broth
  9. 1 cup water
  10. 1 cup Garden Cocktail or VH juice
  11. ½ tsp salt
  12. ½ tsp fresh ground pepper
  13. ½ tsp caraway seeds
Instructions
  1. Preheat oven to 325 degrees F.
  2. Grease the bottom of a casserole dish then spread the cabbage out on the bottom.
  3. In a deep frying pan, brown the meat along with the onion, when cooked drain the grease.
  4. Stir in the rice and crushed tomatoes, water and broth then pour over the cabbage mixture.
  5. Top with the Garden Cocktail.
  6. Cover and bake for 1½ to 2 hours.
